COIDA Amendments and Updates for 2024
COIDA is periodically amended to improve worker protection and streamline administration. Here are the key changes affecting employers in 2024.
Digital-First Filing
The Compensation Commissioner now prioritizes digital submissions. Paper forms are still accepted but processed slower. Employers are encouraged to register for the online portal.
Updated Earnings Ceiling
The maximum earnings limit for benefit calculations has been adjusted for 2024. Check the current rate on the Department of Labour website.
Expanded Coverage for Gig Workers
Recent discussions at Nedlac propose extending COIDA coverage to certain categories of gig economy workers and independent contractors in high-risk sectors.
