COIDA vs Public Liability Insurance: What Employers Need
COIDA and public liability insurance serve different purposes. Smart employers maintain both for complete protection.
COIDA Coverage
COIDA covers employees only. It is a no-fault scheme covering medical costs, disability, and death benefits. It does not cover third parties or property damage.
Public Liability Insurance
This covers claims from third parties (customers, visitors, delivery personnel) injured on your premises. It also covers property damage and legal defence costs.
Do You Need Both?
Yes. COIDA is legally mandatory. Public liability is optional but essential if your business receives visitors or operates in public spaces. Together, they eliminate coverage gaps.
